Conference: Ukraine From Crisis To Growth: Prime Minister Azarov Stresses Ukraine’s Commitment To EU IntegrationPrime Minister Azarov Stresses Ukraine’s Commitment To EU Integration - Speaking today at a high level Business Conference in the Palais d’Egmont in Brussels, Ukraine’s Prime Minister Mykola Azarov stressed Ukraine’s commitment to economic integration with the EU.

“The Association Agreement and the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area now under negotiation between us are hugely important to Ukraine,” he said, “and we are taking steps to make progress on these negotiations as quickly as we can.”

EU Commissioner Stefan Füle cautioned that signature of the two agreements was unlikely before 22 November which is when the EU-Ukraine Political Summit is scheduled to be held in Brussels. This is because of the difficult and technical nature of certain provisions of the Trade Agreement which may require longer to clarify.

“But there should be no doubt that we are totally committed to completing these negotiations successfully,” Prime Minister Azarov went on to say.

“My government is undertaking reforms to improve the economic climate, and is sensitive to the needs of business in respect of tax and regulatory reform. To address the issue of better dialogue with business, I shall set up an Investment Council in the nearest future.”

The Conference was organised by Egmont, the EU Ukraine Business Council and the Mission of Ukraine to the EU, and was sponsored by System Capital Management and Pepsico International.

Other speakers at the Conference included Ukraine’s Energy Minister Mr Yuri Boyko, the Agrarian Affairs Minister Mr Mykola Prysiazhniuk, the Minsiter of Transport Minister Mr Kostiantyn Yefimenko, Belgium Cabinet Minister Mr Pieter De Crem representing the Belgian Government and European Enlargement Commissioner Mr Stefan Füle.
